Bill Haslan Memorial Library

Mission Statement The mission of the Bill Haslam Memorial Library of the First Prebyterian Church of Noblesville is to support the mission of the church in “sharing the spirit of Jesus Christ” by providing resources for the spiritual growth and informational needs of our church members of all ages.

Church Library History The Bill Haslam Memorial Libary was first established in 1985 in memory of William “Bill” L. Haslam who was serving as an elder in the church at the time of his death.

The first library was in a small room west of the sanctuary.  When the 1989 addition was completed, the library moved into the room north of the Fellowship Hall where it is currently located.  Library shelving and cabinets were donated in memory of John and Dorothy Mitchell, the parents of Marj Bill in 1993.

In January 2004, plans were made to reorganize and expand the collection and a new church library committee was formed to undertake this task.  On May 1, 2005 the church library was rededicated.  At this time, cataloging the library’s collection is still a work in progress.

Policies and Procedures

Materials Selection Policy Our selection of materials and resources is aimed to fulfill the goals of our mission statement.  Materials focused on Christian history and/or beliefs and have a Biblical foundation will be accepted.  Inclusion of materials not related to Biblical, spiritual, and personal Christian development will be minimal.  Duplicate and/or surplus books will be sold and money received from the sale will be used to purchase additional resources for the collection.

Gift and Donation Policy Donations of new and used materials are greatly welcomed. We do like to know who is donating the items so please leave your name with the item in the “Donated Materials” box and let us know if you would like a bookplate acknowledging your gift to be placed with the item.  Cash donations are also accepted.  Items will be purchased according to your wishes and our materials selection policy.  Books may be placed in honor of or in memory of a loved one. Bookplates will be placed in those books acknowledging the person being honored or memorialized.

Checking Out Materials and Book Return Policy Checking out a book is as easy as signing your full name on the check out card.  Parents must sign for children under the age of 10.  Stamp or write the date due on the card and on the date due slip in the book.  You may have the book or item for two weeks. Place the card in the charging tray under the title of the book or item.

That’s it!  You’re done!  Enjoy the book! To return a book or item, please place it in the “Returned Books” box.  That’s it!  You don’t need to shelve the book or item.  The library committee will return the check out card to the book or item and shelve it for the next borrower.

Suggestion Box There is a small suggestion box on the cabinet countertop in the library awaiting your suggestions from what items you would like to see added to the collection to comments in general about the library.

We look forward to hearing from you!
