Merriam-webster.com defines “journey” (n.) as an act or instance of traveling from one place to another, as in a trip. This website also defines “journey” (v.) as something suggesting travel or passage from one place to another, as in the journey from youth to maturity or a journey through time.
While both of these definitions are obviously correct, I have personally found the word journey to mean so very much more (no offense Webster’s Dictionary). Here at First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Journey is our combined middle school and high school youth group. We have 20/+ amazing young men and women who come together to learn, worship and just plain goof off together. Let me back up just a second. My name is Beth Wood, and I am the former Youth Ministry Director at FPC.
For the past three years, I have been blessed with the honor of leading this fun-loving and faith-filled group of youth who are Journey. My recently appointed successor, Anita Snyder, has just taken over my role. And she’s going to rock the house…God’s house that is! Her creativity is off the charts, and her love for our youth is something which will continue to grow and challenge them as they strengthen their relationships with God.
I want to share a few photos with you. These images are simple illustrations of what defines Journey for me at FPC. But these pictures are so much deeper than just what you see on the screen. They represent memories and stepping stones which helped in the formation of our youth’s individual and collective faith walks.
In Jeremiah 29:11, it says, “For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God clearly had many plans in mind for Journey, and we know He’s nowhere near done yet! Please take a moment to check out what we’ve been up to recently here at FPC. I consider myself truly blessed to have been such an integral part of Journey over the past three years, and I encourage you to come see what these experiences are all about. Just stop in and ask for Anita Snyder. We welcome you to be part of our journey with God…what are you waiting for?
